ACUPUNCTURE & CHINESE HERBS
My treatments:
All sessions include a consult, treatment and individualised treatment plan plus optional herbs. During our first consult we will go through a detailed health history, any relevant blood tests, recenet diagnosis, mental health and so on, so that I can grasp the whole picture of your health and how I can help you achieve optimal wellness. In my treatments, I include ancillary techniques like gua sha, cupping and/or massage before I use acupuncture to maximise the effect on the meridians I am working with. A prescriptive treatment plan will be put into place that includes diet, lifestyle, movement and daily rituals specific to you and your health goals.
The focus of my practice is women’s health, helping women navigate their cycles, stress, mood, digestion, pain and transitions through menarche, fertility and menopause with more ease. Musculoskeletal issues are also addressed and will be paired with stretches and mobilisation.
What to expect in a tcm treatment
Chinese Medicine approaches health holistically and uses different techniques to facilitate healing:
CM Herbs work synergistically. It is the dynamic relationship between the herbs in the formulas that makes prescriptions more balanced and allows for tailor-made scripts for the patient as their health continues to improve. The alchemy of formulas and the interactions between herbs make Chinese Medicine formulas especially potent and unique to other natural therapies. Herbs can be administered in raw form, granule, tincture, pills, external ointments for skin conditions.
Acupuncture Acupuncturists sense where the electrical pulse of the body is blocked or dull and use needles to bring the brain to body connection back into harmony. Each point on the body has a specific affect and can redirect energy to local or distant areas on the body’s inner geography. Some points act more superficially on the muscle layer for muscle trauma or acute injury, while other points dive deep into the body to release stagnation in layers far away from the surface of your skin. The insertion of the needle usually has some sensation, known as Da qi, but the treatment is virtually painless. The body and nervous system respond to the needles immediately and you can expect to have a deeply relaxing experience while your energy body is being rebalanced.
Moxabustion: Moxa is mugwort (Ai Ye) that is used to warm and move the blood. When burnt close to the skin, Moxa improves blood circulation and adds a nourishing warmth to someone that is deficient due to overwork, stress, taxation or prolonged cold diet.
Cups: Glass cups are warmed with fire and place on the skin, usually along the spine, buttocks or abdomen, to move blood and circulate the lymph. The suction created by the cup decompresses the tissue and pulls up stagnation of blood, damp, heat and lodged cold in the body.
Women’s health
Chinese medicine is an incredible gynaecological modalitiy to treat women’s health issues from menarch to menopause. Monica has a special interest treating Women's health from fertility, postpartum, IVF, menstrual disorders, endometriosis, amenorrhea, and menopause. The menstrual cycle is the branch symptom of a deeper pathology in the body. Herbal medicine plus regular acupuncture is the most effective way to ameliorate gynaecological imbalances in TCM practice, some of which have been present since menarche. Many imbalances, including long standing amenorrhea or stubborn infertility cases can be resolved in 3-6 months. For those undergoing IVF treatments, every case is treated individually and we will coach you on all aspects of your life to harmonise your hormones including diet, lifestyle, meditation, yoga, sleep, exercise and stress management.
